Influence of Aging Heat Treatment on Pitting Corrosion Resistance of Martensitic Stainless Steel

In this research is to study the influence of aging heat treatment on pitting corrosion resistance martensitic stainless steel (MSS), where a number specimens from were subjected solution at 1100 oC for one hour followed by water quenching then in temperatures range (500-750) different holding times (1,5,10,15&20) hr. Accelerated chemical test and immersion performed samples after treatment. The results showed that significantly affected temperature. Where found temperature 500 °C have highest rate which may be due an increase ratio Delta type ferrite (δ-ferrite) very soft precipitates other phases heterogeneous form basic phase; leads increased rate, whereas (550–650) smaller values, high volumetric remaining austenite. above 650 show average rate. It was also pits resulting both tests their shape not related carbides present microstructure
